How base conversion works
Each digit is worth the base raised to its position: in binary 1011, the digits are worth 8 + 0 + 2 + 1 = 11 in decimal. Hexadecimal uses digits 0–9 then A–F for ten to fifteen. Programmers use hex because one hex digit is exactly 4 binary digits, making long binary values short: 11111111 = FF = 255.
