Compress PDF

Two honest ways to shrink a PDF. "Optimize structure" rebuilds the file efficiently and keeps text selectable — best for documents. "Strong" re-compresses every page as an image — much smaller for scanned PDFs, but the text becomes part of the image. The result size is always shown before you download.

Your file is processed entirely in your browser — it is never uploaded.

Why PDFs are big

Most PDF weight is images. A scanned page at 300 DPI can be several MB; recompressing it as a quality JPEG cuts that by 80–95%. Text-based PDFs (exported from Word) are already efficient — for those, structure optimization helps a little, and no tool can honestly do much more without turning pages into images, which is exactly what Strong mode does, with the trade-off stated up front.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will compression hurt quality?

Optimize mode: no visible change. Strong mode: pages are re-rendered as JPEG images — fine for reading and sharing, not ideal for print at Low quality; use High for print.

My file got bigger in Optimize mode — why?

Some PDFs are already optimally built. The tool tells you honestly and suggests Strong mode instead of pretending.
